Colorado Mortgage Brokers (And How to Pick Them)

Use this information for finding and selecting the right mortgage broker for yourself. The right mortgage broker could make the difference with your Colorado home mortgage.

What is a Mortgage Broker?

Mortgage brokers are people who specialize in finding loans for mortgages in the state. They know the legal ramifications of the various loans and products you might be interested in, know the ins and outs and habits of various lenders in your part of Colorado (or even nationally), and work to make sure that your refinance of your home loan goes as smoothly and quickly as possible.

When looking for a mortgage broker, whether you're in big-town Denver, or smaller Pueblo to the south, you want to make sure you find a broker that isn't stuck on providing you with a single product. Look for a broker that is interested in learning about you and your particular needs. He or she should ask a lot of questions about your home refinance and why you want it, and then should act in accordance with your answers.

What's in It for Them?

Well, mortgage brokers don't work for free, of course. They do get paid, usually by the lender that you end up choosing to make your loan through, so there is no direct cost to you, but this is where you need to be careful in making sure that your mortgage broker is out for your best interests because not all banks and not all loans will pay them the same. Some mortgage brokers out there will make it a point to push (however subtly) the specific bank or loan type that offers them the highest commission for their work regardless of whether that bank and/or loan will suit your personal needs.

The best way to find a mortgage broker is usually by referral, or if you don't know anyone that knows one, check for references online or ask them for some people you can call.
